The Veterans of La Casa started meeting as a formal group in 2009. Four veterans got together and wanted to see if there was any interest in starting a veterans group in La Casa. What started out with those four interested veterans is now a group with over a hundred members that is growing stronger every year. We meet monthly on the third Monday at 1pm in the Rec Hall. Our Veteran’s Club board consists of; The Commander, a First Vice Commander, a Second Vice Commander, a Treasurer and a Secretary. We are also honored to have our very own resident Chaplin.
We are proud of the fact that the LaCasa veterans include both men and women members that have proudly served in all branches of the military including US Army, US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, US Army National Guard, and one ally country – Canada. We are proud of our members’ service from WW2 to the present and show them the respect and support they deserve. We welcome your support.
Our Veterans and other members of our Veteran’s Club are committed to continue to serve our community and that spreads well beyond the LaCasa gates. We visit veteran homes and facilities and bring our support and goodwill where it is needed. During the Christmas holiday season, our members, along with “The Voices of LaCasa”, share our holiday cheer with local veteran homes such as the one in Port Charlotte. It is always a very moving experience for all of us to see the joy in the faces of all the patients who attend. It’s a tradition and an enjoyable event that we look forward to.
We strive to keep our fund raising events to include fun for everyone. We sponsor an annual dance around Veteran’s Day (November 11th) and hold a pancake breakfast every year in the Rec Hall that has been very well attended year after year. These and other events along with our yearly dues ($5 per member) and welcomed donations to our worthy cause fund us to give assistance when it is needed. We stand ready to continue to serve.
