The La Casa Artisans Group welcomes everyone interested in creating artwork with the guidance of trained instructors in the company of fellow artisans. People of all levels of expertise are included. Yearly dues are $5. For a small fee collected at each class session, participants are provided with basic materials to create their artwork.
As members gain expertise, they often purchase tools or supplies of their own to enhance their projects. The 70 current members of the La Casa Artisans Group include longtime members who enjoy advancing their skills year by year and new members who want to learn a new skill in a social, low-pressure atmosphere.
Our Glass Class is on Tuesdays at Activity Center. Fee is $5. Participants can make small projects using scrap glass, but if someone creates a larger project the cost varies based on the size and type of glass used. Instructors are:
Ruth Atkins
Gayle & Paul LeClaire
Pottery classes meet on Thursdays, January through March, in the Activities Building. Jerry Thompson and Chris VanAntwerp provide instruction and mentoring. There are two class sessions for participants who are beginners or who like a more structured class with projects. These sessions meet from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Open Studio is a session for more advanced participants. It is held from 3 to 5 p.m.
The fee for Pottery Classes and Studio Time is $5 per session.
The pottery created by the Artisan pottery participants goes through two kiln firings. These creations have been through the bisque firing and are ready for the glaze to be applied.
While there is no formal instruction or projects during Open Studio, both Jerry and Chris are available for mentoring. Those in Open Studio can arrange for instruction on the potter’s wheel. Club members are expected to take one of the classes with formal instruction before signing up for Open Studio.
The Artisans Group season culminates with a show of members’ artwork. All residents of La Casa are invited to attend, enjoy refreshments, and admire the participants’ displays. The La Casa Artisans Group enjoys potluck meals at the beginning and end of the season, as well as the camaraderie of creating in a pleasant social atmosphere. Anyone interested in learning more about the group can find contact information in our Club Directory. [/restrict]
