CASA COMPUTER CLUB NEWS – APRIL, 2018
January and February have been very busy months for the Club and February and March looks to be even busier. If you haven’t been to one of the meetings, which are held the third Tuesday of the month at 7 PM in the Hall, you have already missed seeing a tax return prepared and e-filed in 17 minutes and learned how to fix up or speed up your computer. The February meeting featured “Fixing Your Own Computer” which dealt with not only fixing a computer that is not functioning and addressing virus removal but also addressed everyone’s favorite subject, “My computer is slow, what can I do?” This topic had been much requested and Ed Bourdeau’s presentation was well received. Ed covered many topics including, “Should I upgrade my old computer or buy a new one?” “Are there tools out there that can help fix or tune my computer?” “Is it safe to download from the internet?” The Q & A during the presentation was also very interesting and informative.
One of the main topics for March will be “password vaults or lockers.” What are they? How do they work? Why might I need to lock my passwords? How do I do it? With a password manager, you only need to remember one strong password. Once your account is unlocked, you have access to all the other passwords you’ve saved inside your account, making getting in to all your other sites, services, and devices super easy.
Cheryl Crawford, Vice President of Education, has established a very robust training schedule and is still poring over the surveys looking for additional subjects and session leaders. If you have some knowledge with a particular device or program let Cheryl know. Currently, classes are scheduled in Computer Maintenance & Security, Windows Fundamentals, Backing-up Your Computer, Android Basics and Basic Word Processing. Classes yet to be scheduled include Handling Files and Photo, Creating Greeting Cards, Label Creation and Navigating Windows 10. Cheryl is looking for a person to lead a session in the iPhone and iPad. Check the Casa Computer Club information on LaCasaROC.com for the latest list of scheduled classes.
Classes are usually held in the Computer Training Room in the Activity Building. The room is now equipped with a new 75” HD monitor which really brings many of the classes alive.
Members of the club are entitled to attend all the classes as well as the monthly meetings. Guests at the meetings are charged a $2.00 fee. The March meeting is Tuesday, March 20 at 7 PM.
The Casa Computer Club is not just about computers, It’s about the future!
