December 2014 Coffee Hours
by Tim Davis
The Wednesday morning coffee hours in the Rec Hall are a La Casa tradition, and a great way for new residents to learn about everything La Casa has to offer. There is always a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board (near the drinking fountain) so that we know how many doughnuts to order (and Yummy’s doughnuts are just that – YUUUUUMMMMY!!)
Come listen to our sponsors as they tell you about the services they offer – many of our residents recommend these sponsors and have had good experiences with them. The sponsor’s of December’s coffee hours are:
December 2 – Farley Funeral Homes
December 10 – the La Casa Annual Christmas Coffee Hour with gifts, entertainment and guest visitors!
December 17 – Sun Coast Credit Union, which has just opened for business in North Port
December 24th – Christmas Eve: No coffee hour so you can prepare for the BIG DAY!!
December 31 – New Year’s Eve: No coffee hour as we prepare to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Rec Hall with a big party! Tickets go on sale for New Year’s Eve before the December 10th Coffee Hour!
November 2014 News from your Activity Association
Your Activity Association News for November, 2014
By Tim Davis, President
Our many friends are returning from up North, and they are bringing a return to the Holiday Season in La Casa. This year we all hope it is a glorious and fruitful one for all and invite all La Casa residents to partake in the full slate of events, activities and celebrations planned as we move into the Holiday Season.
In November we have our annual Wine and Cheese Party on Friday, November 21st, which showcases our 2015 All-Star Shows, which begin on Wednesday, January 28th starring the “Marlinaires.” We have several other top notch acts scheduled during February and March, along with a return of the fabulous North Port High School Jazz Band. The Wine and Cheese Party will be hosted by board members Dan Smith and Doris Marlin, who did an excellent job last year of organizing this popular and informative event. All Activity Association Members are invited to attend.
The annual La Casa Thanksgiving Day Pot Luck Dinner will take place on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27th) beginning at 1:00 p.m. This year’s hosts are Mary Borst, Gail Jozwiak and Marlene Bolyard. Plan on attending this bountiful feast, but make sure you wear over-size clothes as the food is delicious!!! A dish to pass that will serve 8 is the requirement for admittance – and please bring your own table service and glassware (along with your appetite!!).
The Activity Association Board of Directors has 3 terms expiring at the end of 2014. Interested candidates who would like to volunteer to run for a 3-year term should submit their resumes to our nominating committee (Dan Smith, Pat Schmidt, Joe Hovolachuk or any current Board Member) by the deadline of November 6th. They will be posted on our bulletin boards and also published in the December newsletter. Our annual election will take place at our Monday Night General Association Meeting on December 1st and the new Board will be seated at our meeting on January 5, 2015.
It’s been a great year so far, and there is still plenty to do in the next few months. The Holiday season will bring many joyous and fun activities, so buckle up and prepare for a great ride!
December 2014 Newsletter Deadline
The deadline for submission of articles and news items for the December La Casa newsletter will be Thursday, November 6th. We would like to have the newsletter delivered the week of Thanksgiving so we must strictly enforce the November 6th deadline so Betty Van Tassell can get everything to our printer.
Please email your articles to Betty or drop off newsletter items at Betty’s house (469 Loma Linda). There is also a newsletter drop-off box in the Rec Hall entrance hallway. Thanks for your cooperation so we can get our Holiday edition to everyone early.
Welcome Back to La Casa! 2014
For those returning from the North to La Casa, please stop by the front office and let them know you are here. It is very important that the front office and guard know you are back, and that your home is no longer vacant.
The front office also needs your mailing address and email address. While you are adjusting to life back in Florida, please utilize www.lacasaroc.com. We provide all that is going on in La Casa and keep you up-to-date on events, clubs, happenings, etc. WELCOME BACK!!

Accepting Resumes for Activity Association Board Positions 2014
Accepting Candidates for Activity Board Positions for 2015
by Tim Davis, President
At the end of 2014, there will be 3 Director’s terms on the Activity Association Board of Directors that will expire. While those Directors currently holding those positions are allowed to run for re-election, we have formed a nominating committee to accept resumes from interested candidates who are members of the Activity Association General Membership. Our terms run 3 years, so these positions will not expire until the end of 2017.
A nominating committee of Pat Schmidt, Dan Smith and Joe Holovachuk have been appointed to oversee the election, which will be held at our Monday, December 1st, General Association Meeting in the Rec Hall. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resumes to one of these committee members (or to any Activity Association Board Member) by the Thursday, November 6, 2014 deadline. All resumes will be posted on the Activity Association Bulletin Boards in the Club House and Rec Hall, appear on www.lacasaroc.com, and be printed in the December newsletter.
Our Board has a requirement that only 2 members (of the nine) can be non-Florida residents. Two of the expiring terms this year are filled by part-time residents, so we can accept applications from “Snowbirds.” In the event that three non-Florida residents run, only the top two vote winners can be declared winners. You must also be a member of good standing with the Activity Association and have a current Activity Association membership card.
The election will take place at our Monday night General Meeting on December 1, 2014 and the new Board will be seated at the January 5th, 2015 meeting. The duties of an Activity Board Director vary; but a strong commitment to volunteerism, a strong work ethic to provide quality service and fun to our residents, and a dedication to working well with others in planning, executing and bringing a wide variety of activities to the La Casa population are the chief assets we look for in Board Members.
We enjoy our job, and have a lot of fun providing a good time for everyone. I will admit that it is also a lot of work, but it keeps us busy and lets us get better acquainted with all the wonderful people of La Casa. So as your President, I encourage you to think about joining us and spreading your good will and cheer around. Remember, the deadline to apply is November 6, 2014.
