Happy Birthday to our nation – 238 years young! It seems like only yesterday when we were celebrating our Bicentennial. Our northern neighbors will be celebrating their 147th birthday on July 1st, Canada Day, and we hope they also have a great celebration.
By the time you receive this Newsletter, all tickets will have been sold for La Casa’s 4th of July celebration in the Rec Hall, but those of you that have tickets will enjoy another day of fun and activities starting off with our traditional decorated Golf Cart Parade at 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch and bingo. Many thanks to our great cooks, George Meekins and Dan Smith, who will be serving up some sizzling food.
By popular demand we decided to bring back Wednesday Night at the Movies, beginning on July 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the Rec Hall. Watch Channel 195 and www.lacasaroc.com closer to the date to find out what movie will be playing. Remember this is a free event. We are also providing free popcorn, so BYOB and have fun. More movie nights will follow in August and September.
On Saturday, July 19th, we will have another dance featuring the music of Rock ‘N Rhythm. Reserved tickets will go on sale before the July 9th Coffee Hour and continue at Bingo until the night of the dance. July’s Pot Luck dinner will be held on Friday the 25th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Bring a dish to share for at least 8, your own tableware and BYOB. Coffee will be served. Stay after to play games or cards, head out to the pool or just socialize with your friends and neighbors.
Registration on www.lacasaroc.com continues to climb over the summer and I keep hearing many positive comments about how this new tool makes it very easy to find out what is going on in La Casa. Tell your neighbors and friends so they can sign up. Those of you up north can easily access the site and see what awaits you when you return next Season. Everyone have a safe and joyous 4th of July and keep watching for more summer activities to keep you busy!

What a great time everyone had on Memorial Day with a moving ceremony by the La Casa Veterans who represented all branches of the U.S. Armed Services. Then we all enjoyed a wonderful roast chicken dinner prepared by our very own International Cooking Team (AKA Jean & Harry Coutts and Dotty & Tony Freiler). YUM! After lunch we were treated to our very own La Casa 500. What a fun and exciting day!
To show our thanks for the support of all the permanent residents in La Casa, we are throwing an Appreciation Lunch at noon on Friday, June 20th, in the Rec Hall. There is a sign-up sheet in the front hall so please indicate whether you plan to attend so we can order plenty of food. This is a FREE event and we hope you enjoy the day. Please bring games, cards or your swim suit and stick around for an afternoon of fun and socializing.
Once again the old chuck wagon will pull up to the Rec Hall for an old-fashioned cookout on 4th of July, along with the traditional LaCasa Golf Cart parade around Lake Marisma led by Grand Marshall Izak Kolodny, accompanied by “Cassie and Pepe” in their “classic” Studebaker (prizes to be awarded for the best decorated carts). The Activity Board Posse of Dan Smith and George Meekins will serve as your chefs, and after lunch we will be having an abbreviated version of Bingo. July 4th ticket sales will begin on June 11th before the Coffee Hour and end at Bingo on June 26th. Tickets for the whole extravaganza are $5.00.
The first of our summer dances is on Saturday, June 14th, with music by Ziggy. Ticket sales will begin before the June 5th Bingo and continue right up to the night of the dance. The price will remain at $5.00.
We have plenty of other activities to keep you happy and entertained this Summer, so continue to read this Newsletter, watch Channel 195 and sign on to our resident-only web site: www.lacasaroc.com. You’d better have your air-conditioner checked out, ‘cause it’s gonna be a HOT ONE in La Casa this Summer!!

Spring has finally arrived and that means will we have to say goodbye to our many friends who will be returning to their homes up north. We all wish you a safe and happy trip home, and look forward to seeing you next Season.
It’s been a great Season and I hope everyone had a good time at all the wonderful activities that were put on by the Activity Association and the various clubs. We will keep it up all summer with our usual Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day celebrations, along with dances each month. Watch the Community Channel on the web, Channel 195 on TV and read the newsletter for details on all the upcoming events.
We also have 24 newly trained volunteers who took a CPR/AED class on March 23rd and we want to thank all who gave their time to become caregivers in case of an emergency at one of our events. Hopefully their skills will never be needed! This will be an ongoing program so we can be assured of always having trained residents when we need them.
This month we will have a dance on Saturday, May 10th, with music by Black Velvet. Reserved seat tickets will go on sale before the April 30th Coffee Hour and continue at all bingo nights and coffee hours. Also on tap is our annual Memorial Day salute to our nation’s Veterans, followed by an excellent dinner prepared by our International Cooking Team. After dinner bring your quarters for the La Casa 500 and pick a winner! Reserved seats will go on sale on Wednesday, May 7th before the Coffee Hour.
For those of you staying for the summer, sit back and relax, take a walk on the beach, have dinner out while avoiding the crowds and be prepared to have a lot of fun here in La Casa!
