Florida Power & Light (FPL) offers what is called On Call, an agreement for eligible customers who will allow the utility company to temporarily shut off selected high energy devices such as air conditioners, swimming pool pumps, and electric water heaters. The utility company installs a transponder that controls the on-off operation of the selected devices.
What may be of some interest to La Casa home owners is that the transponder may already be installed on your house circuit and it may be active. A previous owner of the house may have opted in for the program and you may have inherited it. It is possible that when the account name changes, the program is cancelled until renewed by the new customer. Often, the transponder is mounted in the backyard on or near some electrical box that you may have not even noticed.
The link below will take you to a FPL page that explains the program. A newspaper article in The Herald-Tribune (North Port, Englewood and Charlotte edition) dated March 11, 2015 deals with this topic. It is likely that more information can be had by e-mailing Tom Lyons at tom.lyons@heraldtribune.com.
The second link below will take you to an out-of-town newspaper article that you should read before deciding whether to subscribe, or cancel On Call service if you already have it.
