Green Thumbs of La Casa
February 2017
Barbara Jordan, Committee Chair
February was a slow month for the Green Thumb Committee due to illness among committee members and volunteers. No new projects were started, but maintenance and adding plants to existing areas continued.
On February 25, 2017 we began our largest project to date running along the outside fence area at the Rec Hall pool. A special thank you to Reg Whittaker for picking up the soil, fertilizer and landscape timbers the day before. On Saturday morning, committee members and volunteers removed rocks and old rotted timbers. The area was measured, made wider, and cleaned out. New landscape timbers were placed and holes were dug for the palms that were on order. Thank you to the following residents that came to help. Stu and Carol Karlins, Phil Ternullo, Rich and Jill Palmer, Ron Hunnisett, Reg and Karen Whittaker, Jan Danner, Nadine Lipari, Hazel Gilchriest, Gail Fryer, Walter Giardetti, and Gary and Barbara Jordan.
On February 28 with the help of volunteers, three Hong Kong Orchids were planted in front of the Club House of Lake Del Hacienda. A Crape Myrtle was added to Lake Hermoso sign on El Tango. A Crape Myrtle was planted on Lake Hermoso across from 652 El Tango. A Crape Myrtle was added to Lake Hermoso in the sign area on Los Altos. One palm outside the fence at the Rec Hall pool area. Thank you to the following committee and volunteers Sue and Tom Thompson, Rich Palmer, Gary and Barbara Jordan.
Thank you also to Henry Kellenberger and Gilbert LaLonde for picking up palm trees at the nursery for planting on March 6.
The Green Thumb Committee are very grateful for all the help from volunteers. There are several ways you can volunteer if anyone else is interested. Some examples are planters, watering, and helping to pick up plants from the nursery. In addition we are grateful for the kind comments from the La Casa community.
