Nancy Lau, Claudia Sykora and Jan Kinsey organized the first ever La Casa Nurses get together on March 22, 2015 at the Activity Building. Thirteen other nurses, most of whom are retired, joined Nancy, Claudia and Jan for chatting and snacking. They were: Mary Borst, Gail Fryer, Donnie Simmons, Diane Flanagan, Noreen Nys, Carol Szabo, Pat Young, Josie Doshan, Marilyn Leahy, Maggie Palmer, Betty Boomer and Jo Ann Donahue. Nancy Lau was the emcee of the event. She quizzed the group on nursing trivia and even had a door prize for some lucky attendee. Most of the women brought snacks to share and a few even wore their caps and pins!
Each nurse had an opportunity to tell the others where she was from, the areas of nursing in which she worked and how rewarding the profession had been. It was delightful to compare stories with others. Some nurses had worked in medical-surgical areas, others in labor and delivery, still others in pediatrics and a few in mental health. They were employed in hospitals, assisted living facilities, group homes, and out-patient clinics. As one would expect with retired nurses, many had held leadership and management positions. All of the attendees had taken advantage of continuing education and/or advanced education which is a must in such a rapidly changing profession.
The group plans to meet again on Sunday, February 7, 2016. If you are or were a nurse, please plan to attend and wear your cap and/or your pin. Bring any nurse memorabilia you have lying around that the others would enjoy. The pictures show all the nurses who attended this fun afternoon.

Under balmy breezes and warm sunshine the front street by Lake Escondido was closed for the second annual Block party of the three streets, Iglesia, Del Luna and Del Sol and was held Saturday, February 7th.
A total of 85 neighbors came with an abundance of delicious food and lots of sweet desserts. Hot dogs, soda and beer were provided and everyone signed in on the North America Map. There were 11 new couples present with one couple not signing their closing papers until the following week, but they wanted to meet their neighbors.
Larry Gaudreau, a long-time resident, was in attendance with his family.
