How Clean is Your Cruise Ship? Know Before You Go – Dec. 2014

December 17, 2014 by Tim Davis

Planning a cruise in the near future? There has been a lot of press about the spread of gastrointestinal illnesses (GI) on cruise ships. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) manages the Vessel Sanitation Program to assist the cruise ship industry in the prevention and control of GI outbreaks on their ships.

So how is the industry doing? You can check for yourself by reviewing inspection scores for many of the cruise ship lines that operate from US ports.

Go to the Vessel Sanitation Program page of the CDC and you can review inspection reports for ships, read various publications about the program and guidelines, and even get tips on staying healthy on your next cruise.

A Heartfelt Thanks to La Casa from Sally Smith

November 6, 2014 by Tim Davis

by Sally Smith

Dear, Dear La Casa,

A heartfelt thank you to all our friends and neighbors for your prayers, warm wishes and concerns for Tom.

Food has appeared to feed a tired mind and body – MINE.  Bless you!!!

As of this writing Tom has been readmitted to the hospital after a very short stay at Quality Health Care.  Hopefully when the December La Casa Newsletter is distributed he will be well on his way to recovery.  Only time will tell.

Special thanks to Deb and Mike Poe for tending to his precious bonsais.  He asks about them daily.  I took pictures of the trees so he can see and appreciate Deb and Mike’s hard work.  To Marilee, how can I ever repay you for helping me get through one of the longest and worst days of my life.  Also, much love to Shirley and Tom Barnes for joining the long wait during the surgery.  Tom  had his own private cheering section.

The flowers and cards conveyed by Shirley Paro and Tim Davis on behalf of La Casa were bright spots in our narrowed world.

Tom is much too fragile for visitors right now, but hopefully he will soon be ready to see your bright and smiling faces.

Here’s to love, and hope.  Tom Sally and Family

4th Annual La Casa Breast Cancer Car Wash breaks records!!

October 27, 2014 by Tim Davis

4th Annual La Casa Breast Cancer Car Wash Breaks Records

On Saturday, October 25th, the 4th annual La Casa Car Wash for Breast Cancer Research was held at the RV Compound, organized by HOA President Randy Burlison.  Over 20 La Casa residents volunteered their time and sweat to make this a rousing success – over $1,300 was raised, and money was still coming in !!!  Thanks to all the La Casa volunteers and residents who made our Park have the nicest looking cars on Tamiami Trail – at least until the next rainfall!

Following are some pictures taken Saturday by photographer Izak Kolodny, which were also sent to the Sun Newspaper for possible publication.  The crew almost doubled last year’s take and all of the money will go to this worthy cause to find a cure for this horrible disease.  A BIG round of applause to everyone that participated.

Extensive Airbag Recall Affects Florida Residents – Oct. 2014

October 21, 2014 by Tim Davis

Extensive Airbag Recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a wide-ranging airbag recall. The issue involves the fact that airbags in cars located in warm, humid climates can deploy in minor collisions and release shrapnel that can injure or kill. A number of deaths have already been attributed to this fault.

A website link to the NHTSA site that lists the makes and models involved is shown below. This post will be available for public viewing, so you can refer your family and friends to it if needed.
